Points of Interest
Poço do Inferno
The Poço do Inferno impresses with its 10-meter waterfall, set in a gorge carved by the Ribeira de Leandres. Surrounded by dense forest and striking rock formations, it is a place of remarkable natural beauty and strong geological expression.
Serra de Baixo
Once, this area was a key hub of pastoral life, with rye fields stretching under the watchful eyes of shepherds. The granite enclosures still preserve this living memory. Transhumance, the practice of moving herds to high-altitude pastures in summer and lowlands in winter, is today maintained by a few shepherds, keeping the connection to tradition and the mountain’s identity alive.
Covão d'Ametade
Covão d’Ametade, a former glacial lagoon, is dominated by the towering Cântaro Magro. This valley holds tales of persistent snow, deep lagoons, and natural formations that have shaped the imagination of the Serra. A place of great environmental sensitivity, where human presence must always be conscious and respectful.
Penhas da Saúde
Situated at around 1500 meters above sea level, Penhas da Saúde has been recognized since the late 19th century as a haven of well-being and recovery. The pure mountain climate and tranquil landscapes led to the establishment of the first accommodation units, creating one of the oldest health tourism hubs in the Serra da Estrela.
Nave de Santo António
Nave de Santo António is a vast plain that turns green in summer, playing a crucial role in the Serra’s natural balance. Amid pastures and traces of pastoral activity, it remains one of the largest open fields in the Serra da Estrela, offering a truly unique panorama steeped in history.
Lagoa Comprida
Lagoa Comprida occupies a former glacial valley, forming a vast mirror of water at high altitude. The open and silent landscape holds, in its surroundings, stories and legends that add an enigmatic character to the place, making it one of the Serra da Estrela’s most striking settings.
Almoço Serrano
During the route, there is a special stop to enjoy a traditional mountain lunch, featuring local flavours that reflect the authenticity of the Serra da Estrela. A pause combining tradition and culinary delight, fully integrated into the experience.
